What does innovation look like in physical therapy?
Winter break book club on "Why not cheaper and better?"
This winter break I’d like to do a book club on the recently published book called “Why not better and cheaper?” - Find it here on Amazon, or here at Oxford University Press.
“Economists understand that cost-saving innovation is critically important to economic growth and prosperity, and the authors note a particularly illuminating example: What it used to cost for the farm laborer in 1800 to light up a room—5.4 hours of work—now costs, for the modern worker, less than one-half second of work. As the authors ask in the title of their book, why aren't there comparable innovations in health care that are both better and cheaper?”
Journal of Economic Literature, Review by Jonathan Skinner, Dartmouth University
I’m hoping that whoever joins this book club would be interested in discussing two inter-related topics. First, what does innovation look like in physical therapy? And second, more broadly, can physical therapy be an innovation in health care?
The club would only meet three times in January, the first three weeks at a time that works for those interested. I’m thinking early mornings or evenings - but during January I’m available a wide range of times. I’m leaving time of day open right now.
If you’re interested - you’d have to commit to reading the book by at least the second meeting - since there are only three meetings, I’d like at least two of them to have all people attending having had read the book to completion.
If you’re interested - email me at my university email: smc1047@usnh.edu (my personal email is unfortunately very unreliable at the moment).
